The toughest and the most competitive ever Sprint Series Adventure Race

The field was extremely competitive with the winner in the Classic course determined during the final advanced mountain bike leg, with 7 teams racing head to head going into the last leg.

Greg Ley and Adrian McGregor of team Marshans showed off their outstanding riding abilities and came in first to the finish line.  Family team, Rob and Felix Davis - Tandoori Chickens, dominated in the Novice category. Full results available here>>

Race HQ greeted teams with ideal racing conditions, with a temperature of 15 degrees and blue skies over scenic Lysterfield Park.

The first to arrive was dad and daughter team, Nicole and Andrew Farrier, who had just completed their navigation training the night prior and were ready and prepared, studying their maps. (They came third in Classic Mixed, so it must be the right strategy).

Decathlon provided entertainment zones for kids - some of them nearly missing the start of the race as they were busy playing different games.

The start of the race was exciting, when the (slightly nervous) Classic teams received their maps of the first leg at the start line and sprinted off to get the checkpoints. While Novice teams took off on the kayaks and proceeded on to the run afterwards.

Both courses then mountain biked to the other end of the park, where they had another trekking leg with a few off-road checkpoints to negotiate.

One of the checkpoints was a moment of glory for the lucky teams who were navigation gurus, however, it was a long and painful bush-bashing for the less experienced teams.

Next was a fast and flowing mountain bike leg back the race HQ where Classic teams had kayaks waiting for them on the shore and an advanced mountain bike leg to follow (only for the fastest teams), while Novice teams proceed directly to the celebration at the finish line.

A BBQ lunch was the final and most welcomed stage of the race by that time, with the prize-giving ceremony commencing soon after.

The biggest ever lucky draw pool was provided by event partners Decathlon, Moxie Gear and Hiking society.

The Novice category winners, Davis family, had an expected win with dad Rob admitting he’s due to get replaced by a faster friend of Felix's as Felix is getting way too fast.

Classic course winners, Marshans, were pleased to find out they were the first at the finish line and said they had no idea where other teams were as there were so many options to visit all checkpoints. They described the race as a really tough course, one of them mentioned that they started cramping on the other side of the lake, but still managed to hold a fast pace and get the win.

The next Sprint Series race is scheduled for the 20th of October and will be held on the Surf Coast and registration for this event will open on the 15th of May.
