The Upper Murray Challenge has locked in the main sponsorship, with confirmed cash prizes

upper murray challenge FotorThe Upper Murray Challenge is one of the oldest Australian multisport events. The first edition took place in 2003 and since then it has become a recognised achievement to win or even just complete this gruelling event and a must-do for every multisport athlete. The 2017 edition will take place on 4th of November at the same place - the Kosciuszko foothills.

The event, which is coming back after a two-year hiatus, is receiving incredible community support from volunteers, Council and local businesses. The major sponsors of the event are Snowy Valley Council, Snowy Hydro and Upper Murray Community Health Services.

The course consists of a 38-km mountain bike, 26-km paddle and 25-km run and is open to individuals, relay teams and tandem teams (AR Duo).

The Full Cycle Albury 38-km mountain bike leg is relatively non-technical and involves steep ascents and descents, following mostly 4WD trails on the back of Khancoban Country Club. The bike finishes next to Khancoban Dam wall, where the 26-km kayaking leg will commence. Here the river flow adds quite a bit of speed, with the quickest paddle time in previous years being one and a half hours for the 26km journey.

Following the kayak leg, it will be a time to stretch your legs, warm up, do some more climbing and enjoy sightseeing. The 25-km run has a variety of terrain: some bitumen to finish, gravel to start, and with a few bits of paddock, rough 4WD, and even completely off-road sections, which will keep you on your toes.

Each of the fastest Male and Female finishers will receive a $500 cash prize and one of the lucky draw winners will get a spot prize from Full Cycle Albury Specialized Pitch Sport 650B 21".

In addition to being an incredibly hard race, the course is unbelievably spectacular and showcases some of the amazing High Country landscapes. It’s definitely worth the climbing and driving effort to get to the start.

The race registration and briefing will take place on Friday 3rd of November in Khancoban Country Club. The event kicks off at 8:00am Saturday and finishes up at 6:00pm in Corryong, when the presentation will start.

Participants of all levels and their families are invited to enjoy the Upper Murray hospitality and take part in the challenge.
